Election Reflections and Fall Fiesta

A National Blue Wave, but Tough Local Losses.

What an election! Democrats flipped Congress, but here in the Mohawk Valley, the results were bittersweet. We worked incredibly hard alongside Blake Gendebien, Jon Lipe, Mandi Drake, and other local candidates we believed in. They gave so much of themselves to our communities, and so did the volunteers who knocked on doors, made calls, rallied, and encouraged neighbors to vote. Many of those candidates didn't win, and we share that disappointment.

But our work was not in vain! John Mannion won reelection in NY-22—and carried the Oneida County portion of his district after losing it in 2024. In deeply Republican NY-21, Blake Gendebien's campaign also saw remarkable gains in Democratic support. These results reveal meaningful changes right here at home, even where the odds have long been difficult.

And there's more to this election story than who won and who lost. Beyond the numbers are candidates, volunteers, and first-time activists whose dedication deserves to be recognized.

Want to see what grace and integrity look like after a hard-fought loss? Read further to see what our candidates had to say.

And don't miss the reflections of two IMV members: Bonnie Zweifel, a supporter from the beginning, and Erica Zalatan, a self-described “newbie” who's already made an incredible difference in our community.

To Our Local Candidates: Thank You!

To Blake Gendebien, Jon Lipe, Mandi Drake, Ihor Semko, Rob Maciol, Colleen Maxwell, Mike Brown, and all the local candidates who stepped forward:

Thank you for your hard work, your courage, and your commitment to our communities. We know these weren't easy races, and we're grateful you took them on.

And congratulations to Congressman John Mannion on his reelection in NY-22!
