Are You Outraged? Let's Get ICE Out for Good

Call, Email, & Take Action

We hope many of you joined the National Mass Call on Wednesday evening, "Healthcare not Warfare," and the Rapid Response Call: ICE Killing and Lawlessness in Minneapolis that was held last night on Zoom.  Both events were scheduled in response to unfolding Trump regime actions that occurred after our last weekly email.

If you are not getting critical information between weekly IMV newsletters that you want to know about: 1) Follow Indivisible Mohawk Valley's Facebook page and 2) Sign up to receive emails from Indivisible here

Even as the call last night began, we were getting word that federal agents had shot two people in Portland.  The violence of this regime is escalating,  But our job is to stay in the streets and to stay non-violent.
If you are angry right now, horrified, broken-hearted, we guarantee that you will feel better if you show up with other people to express (non-violently) your opposition to this immoral, corrupt regime. And your action makes a difference.  Solidarity matters. The more of us who reject violence and chaos and fear together in public, the more power we have.  We have unity, care, community, and love to overcome the evil that Trump and his agents are trying to spread.

It's not too late to take action in response to Trump's aggression for oil in Venezuela. Our voices have power, but only when we stand up together and use them!  If you missed the call on Wednesday, you can watch the recording here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PAkiITmsR34

Both the Senate and House are set to vote on measures aimed at reining in Trump’s militarism and preventing a U.S. occupation of Venezuela. It’s crucial that all Members of Congress hear from as many of their constituents as possible, so they know the American people want our elected officials to focus on the issues we are facing here at home, not starting another endless war.

Take action NOW:

  1. Send a letter to your members of congress: https://moveon.org/nowarletter

  2. Call your senator:
    https://indivisible.org/resource/call-now-demand-your-senators-stop-trumps-war-venezuela

There was a vote yesterday in the Senate that advanced the bill to stop a war in Venezuela, but there's more to come. To stay up to date on calling Members of Congress, we do recommend putting the 5calls.org app on your phone and using it daily.

The primary call to action in response to ICE murders is to hold an ICE Out for Good event this weekend.  We will turn our Saturday rally in Rome into an ICE Out for Good event. You'll see it on Mobilize soon.  See you on Saturday at noon in Rome.  If you can help as a Safety Marshal, please show up a few minutes early!

Rallies Coming Up

Friday, Jan. 9th, 3-4 pm, Rally on the Clinton Village Green, Join the Kirkland Town Democrats with your signs about Trump’s takeover of Venezuela and its oil, the regime’s refusal to comply with the law to release the Epstein Files, the erasure of the truth about Jan. 6th, 2021, and everything else this regime is doing to destroy democracy, break the electoral system, and steal  America’s wealth for the billionaires.

Saturday, Jan. 10th, 12:00-1:30 pm, Protest The Trump Regime in Rome, ICE OUT FOR GOOD!  Along Black River Blvd near the intersection with Erie Blvd. on one side of Fort Stanwix, Rome.  This peaceful weekly demonstration has music and creative signs. Dress for the weather!  Sign ideas: "No War for Oil!"  "Healthcare not Warfare"  "Stand with Minnesota" and whatever else seems important in the moment.

Thursday, Jan. 15th, 3:00-4:30 pm, Rally to Protest the Trump Regime, 10 Broad Street (Pirnie Federal Building), Utica, Continue to bring signs with messages against ICE terror and No war for oil!

Thanks to everyone who came out for yesterday's rally at Burrstone and French Road!  We also appreciate the simultaneous effort of the Bridge Brigade!  The two shifts of volunteers on the pedestrian bridge over the thruway both had visits from a friendly state trooper  He commented on the many positive honks that the signs were generating, and also noted that the activity is legal so long as the signs are not attached to the fence. The special netting signs must be held by the volunteers.  So if you're helping out in the future, please remember to hold your sign and do not attach anything to the fencing or bridge structure.

Climate Crisis Working Group

Good News, Thank You, and Happy New Year!

Before we discuss the good news, we want to thank each and every one of you for all your hard work over this past year. There was plenty of bad news in 2025, and more already in 2026, for the environment and all aspects of our lives that the federal government touches, so we want to be sure to celebrate the positive things that happened. May you know that none of this would be possible without you! Whether it be a call, email or going to Albany or attending a press conference/public hearing…every action makes a difference. You all make a difference in the lives of others!! Please take the time to feel good about that today and everyday.

So, for the good news that gives us reason to celebrate:

For once you are not being asked to call, email, lobby, send comments or join us in Albany. Instead we are celebrating Governor Hochul signing the repeal of the 100-foot rule, S.8417/A.8888. The purpose of this bill is to remove the ratepayer-funded subsidies for the connection of new customers to the gas distribution system. This has a potential to save $600 million a year while stopping the expansion of utility gas system infrastructure. This is a huge win for New York State residents, and we should feel good about all the hard work that IMV and others have put into getting this bill passed and then signed by Governor Hochul.

More good news is that NYSERDA will be allocating a record amount of funding for the Empower+ program from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative Funds. EmPower+ provides low and moderate-income households up to $10,000 to upgrade their homes with energy efficiency measures that reduce utility bills, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and improve the quality of homes.

We hope that you had time to take a breath over the holidays and refresh; we will be back next week with actions you can take to help the planet!

From the co-leaders of the Climate Crisis Working Group of Indivisible Mohawk Valley wishing you and your family & friends a Happy, Healthy New Year!

Take good care!

Maggie Reilly, Mona Perrotti, Kathy Collett, Jennifer Geiger, & Alan Cole.

Wrap-up and Inspiration

1) Please look at the calendar and join in what you can. (In addition to our regular rallies, CAFE Friday, and Indivisible state and national Zooms, there is a special community event on Jan. 19 in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, which we urge everyone to attend.)

2) Do you think we should do something that's not scheduled? You might be the one to organize it!  If you decide to take the lead on a pop up rally or a training or a poster party, or whatever interests you, just contact us at IMV@IndivisibleMV.org and let us know your plan, what kind of support you need, and how we can help promote your event.  We are a grassroots volunteer group so the sky is the limit for your creativity in building a political activism community, your passion for resisting authoritarianism, and your drive to elect people who will stand up to MAGA.

3) What's next?
We hope to put together Zoom and/or in person trainings on how to respond to ICE presence in our community.  Many of you want training on how to respond if you see ICE in your area and how to support neighbors who may be vulnerable when ICE comes into the neighborhood.  As soon as we can pull that together we will let you know. Or please reach out if you have the knowledge and skills to help with training or know someone who does.

We are also waiting to hear a date for NoKings 3--probably end of March or early April.  The goal of the next NoKings mass mobilization will be to get from 7 million to 11 million--3.5% of Americans in the streets.

It's Bad, But We Can Still Act out of Love for Justice

Trump is becoming more terrible by the minute and so are the systems and structures of his regime.  They are lying more brazenly, as they did about Renee Nicole Good, the woman killed by an ICE agent in Minneapolis.  As they become more desperate to hold on to power in the face of decreasing popularity, they will lash out with their harm and cruelty, their corruption and deceit, their cheating and gaslighting.

Trump wants us alone and scared. We will not give him what he wants  This moment calls for more than thoughts and prayers. It calls for courage.

Don't give up.
Think about your own power.
Take action with other people.
Be clear on your values and how you'll stand up for them.
Do not obey in advance.

Breathe, then PUSH.
