What's Your 2026 Activism Resolution?
What's your 2026 Activism Resolution?
We need to hear from you! 2026 is going to be (arguably) the most important election year of our lives to date. It's going to be a year when solidarity and political activism form a bulwark to defend against authoritarianism. Trump and his supporters in Congress and in the state governments may act like wounded animals lashing out at the most defenseless people and institutions in a last ditch effort to keep power. And those people and institutions will need backup.
What do you plan to do?
We are collecting your activism resolutions for 2026 and ask you send them to us at: IMV@IndivisibleMV.org over the next week. We will publish them in our January 2, 2026 newsletter. Be sure to tell us whether we can use your first and last name, first name only, or if you want to be anonymous.
This is the final IMV email newsletter of 2025. We want to start off 2026 with a newsletter that doesn't just detail Trump Republican horrors but instead, catalogs your commitments to defend against them, defeat them at the polls, and make a better world.
Calls to Make
Email your Members of Congress to demand investigations into Hegseth’s murderous strikes in the Caribbean and Pacific. It appears increasingly likely that Pete Hegseth oversaw war crimes in the regime’s illegal bombings of small boats in the Caribbean. Congress has a duty to launch investigations into these strikes, which have killed over 87 people thus far. Email your Members of Congress and demand they haul Pete Hegseth into public hearings on these ongoing extrajudicial murders.
Rally to Resist ICE at the Batavia Detention Facility
Saturday, Dec. 20th, 1-3 pm. Rally to Resist ICE Fascism at the Batavia Detention Center (Sharing from CNY Solidarity). This rally is hosted by Bill Schubert of PeoplesActionRochester. He has rallied at this Federal detention center before with no issues. The facility’s security personnel have been friendly, and the 70 or so ralliers have been peaceful and well-behaved. This is a peaceful demonstration, and involves travel outside the Mohawk Valley. However, a number of our local neighbors who have been taken by ICE are at the federal detention facility in Batavia.
Indivisibles Get the Job Done
This week we were reminded of a time in 2019 (Dec. 17, 2019) when more than 150 of us stood at Oneida Square in the dark, in deep snow, and on a very cold night, with huge light up signs that spelled out IMPEACH in order to push our Member of Congress (Anthony Brindisi) at the time to vote yes to impeach Trump on his actions with Ukraine. He did. And we believe that the pressure of IMV and the other Indivisible groups in the old NY22 was a key influence. This week Leah Greenberg wrote in the Monday email about another effort, this one in Indiana, when the state legislature rejected the brazen partisan redistricting proposal by the MAGA Republicans.
She says: "Many individual legislators showed real courage, and they deserve recognition. But none of this would have happened without Indiana’s civil rights leaders and grassroots organizers. They ran a pedal-to-the-metal campaign that drove massive popular outrage -- flooding legislators with calls, filling the statehouse, and refusing to be ignored. And that’s after building grassroots power for years under some of the toughest conditions out there. Indiana Indivisibles: TAKE A BOW.
A Bluesky post from Indivisible Northeast Indiana that reads: BREAKING: WE DID IT! After days of intense pressure from D.C., the Indiana Senate REJECTED the mid-decade gerrymandered map! This victory belongs to every Indivisible member, every activist, and every Hoosier who called, emailed, and showed up
Why it happened now: Let's be clear: This sweeping repudiation of Trump by his own party didn’t come out of nowhere.
It wouldn’t have happened back in February or June, when Trump’s approval ratings were still hovering in the 40s. It wouldn’t have happened before the massive No Kings rallies, including in Indiana. It wouldn’t have happened before the MAGA coalition cracked over Epstein, before the shutdown cratered Trump’s approval numbers, or before the 2025 off-year elections and TN-07 scared the crap out of Republican legislators everywhere. Nationwide defiance laid the foundation for last Wednesday in Indiana.
This is what it looks like when a would-be dictator tries to bully his way into power -- and fails. It’s a sign that rule-by-fear is breaking down. It’s a flashing warning light that the wheels are coming off the fascism bus."
IMVers: Authoritarianism is not inevitable. We battled it before, and we are battling it again. Already, we can see that the veneer of inevitability is cracking. Trump is cracking. The Republican coalition in Congress is cracking. The Republican wall, even in a red state like Indiana, is cracking.
It's time to stomp on the ice. Resolve to start putting on those boots in January.
Sum Up
Thursday, Indivisible co-founders Leah and Ezra hosted their final "What's the Plan?' zoom call of this year. See links in the calendar for weekly calls that start again on Jan. 8th.
We also encourage people to join CAFE Fridays to connect with IMV members on Friday mornings. That group meets every Friday, even through the holiday.
The Saturday Rally in Rome will also continue through the holidays. Join that hardy and joyful group!
The Thursday rallies will continue after the holidays, starting on Jan. 8th.
Thank you to Carolyn McAleese, Regina Kekis, and Mike Corbett for their Letters to the Editor on Tuesday. They completely filled the op-ed section! Keep up the good work, letter writers!
The third nationwide No Kings Rally is in the works. It will not be in January or February because the weather would not be condusive across most of the country for growing participation. We estimate end of March or early April. We'll let you know as soon as we know.
IMV will have meetings in January and February. We are looking at dates and locations.
IMV plans to host workshops so we are all trained by experts on what to do if our neighbors are taken by ICE or if we spot ICE in our communities. We need to be ready, we need to have a plan, and we need an organized network to spring into action. There will be a wide range of opportunities available for people to join volunteer teams for immigrant defense and support as well, depending on comfort level and capacity. Details coming soon.
No Bystanders: Thank You for Taking Action
This has been a difficult year. You could have tuned out to save your mental and emotional health. You could have stayed home. You could have given up. But you didn't.
You stayed involved. You showed up. You made a difference. Your moral and patriotic commitments to save democracy and defend against authoritarianism and the lie of billionaire domination run deep, and you acted on them.
Please send your 2026 Political Activism Resolutions to us this week. Do it today before you get busy with your next holiday activity: IMV@IndivisibleMV.org. We can't wait to hear from you!
As Valarie Kaur said on a dark night at the end of 2016, knowing that Donald Trump would soon be walking into the White House (the first time), Breathe. Then PUSH.
Please breathe and rest in these final days of 2025. We need you strong in 2026. We all need to be strong in 2026, strong and courageous.
