NY Health Act: What Will You Do to Win in Albany in 2026?

NYS Indivisibles had a great meeting on Wednesday with Melanie D'Arrigo, the Executive Director of the Campaign for NY Health about the NY Health Act.  We learned so much, including about strategy and tactics for moving the bill in 2026.   Here's the recording (57 mins). There are actions here for everyone.  Please learn more and get involved. Because of the current Republican assault on affordable health care, this may be the year we can finally pass this bill!

WHY IS GOVERNOR HOCHUL ROLLING BACK and DELAYING NY CLIMATE LAW?

Since Governor Hochul came into office, fossil fuel companies and utilities have ramped up efforts to hire lobbyists with ties to her administration and have succeeded in stalling climate and energy affordability policies.

Here in New York, our energy bills are out of control. That’s because the system is based on what’s best for fossil fuel companies, not us, their customers. Fossil fuel companies and utilities are protecting their profits even as prices rise for working people.

NY Renews' latest report with our allies at LittleSis and Strong Economy for All reveals a $15 million fossil-fuel lobbying blitz behind New York’s climate delays and rollbacks. It's time for our leaders to prove that our energy future cannot be bought. Share our report on social media, and then contact your local elected officials to demand that New York protect people, and the planet—not corporate profits.

IS SOLAR RIGHT FOR YOU?

Right now, it can feel overwhelming to think about the scale of the climate crisis. But here's something you can control: the energy powering your home. Installing rooftop solar is one of the most impactful actions you can take; reducing your reliance on fossil fuels, cuts carbon emissions, and helps build the clean energy future we're all fighting for, one home at a time.
And here's the good news: you don't have to figure it out alone.

Phone Bank for Aftyn Behn (TN-7)

Aftyn Behn, a social worker, state House Representative, and former Indivisible organizer, is running in a special election on December 2nd to flip Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District. Aftyn is a smart, clear-eyed, young leader and she's got an incredible grassroots campaign that's energizing disaffected voters across the district. She's running to feed kids, fix roads, and fund hospitals -- Aftyn is exactly the type of fighter TN-07 deserves and a voice we desperately need in Congress.

This won’t be an easy race to win -- Trump won the district by 22 points in 2024 -- but we’ve seen districts swing by that margin just last week and Aftyn has won challenging races before.  Please sign up to help--this is a great way to learn and practice critical phonebanking skills we will all need to use in 2026!

He's a dairy farmer from St. Lawrence County who draws in independent voters as well as Democrats and has already raised $4 million.

Time: 5-7pm

Where: Clinton, Location available upon registration

Sum Up and Inspiration

As we approach the Thanksgiving Holiday, we want you to know that we are thankful for YOU, our pro-democracy political action community.

  • Thank you for all that you do to fight autocracy, to protect health care and human rights, to advocate for climate solutions and public education, to show courage by showing up in public for rallies and other events even as neighbors and co-workers mock pro-democracy politics and worship a wannabe fascist authoritarian.

We believe that every day more and more Americans are wondering what is going wrong and are curious about alternatives to Trump and the complicit Republican Congress.  When you wear your "Democracy is not a spectator sport" or other political button on your coat to the grocery store, you light the spark in their brain, or you let them know they are not alone in wanting a different, less cruel, more fair world. Keep up the good work.

We are the ones we've been waiting for.  And YOU are part of the WE.

No Friday email next week. But we'll be in touch soon about upcoming rallies and events.
Happy Thanksgiving!
