No Kings: Courage is Contagious

"The Largest Single Day Protest in American History"

With almost 2500 events registered so far across the globe, the total number of events has already far outpaced June’s No Kings Day, and more are being added every day.
Indivisible leaders are confident that October 18th No Kings will be the largest single day protest ever in American history. Do not let your friends, family, and co-workers miss out on this event.  Someday, after we end this nightmare, and democracy flourishes again, our grandchildren and great-grandchildren will ask us whether we showed up on the side of justice, truth, and multicultural democracy on this day.  We need to be able to say, "Yes, I was there."

Check out the No Kings Tips for Attendees video. We want to make sure our events are safe and jubilant. Watch this quick video with tips for navigating the day while keeping yourselves and each other safe.  And everyone is encouraged to attend the ACLU "Know Your Rights & De-escalation Safety" Zoom on Wednesday, October 15th at 7:00 pm. This is essential training and preparation for everyone.

Register for Freedom to Speak (the pre-No Kings Day mass call) on Thursday, October 16, at 8pm.  Hear from experts in the field (alongside some incredible celebrity guests you won’t want to miss), and build excitement for Saturday the 18th. This to get you fired up and ready to go!

If you didn't see it, here is the message that Indivisible's Co-founders, Ezra Levin and Leah Greenberg, sent yesterday.  Ezra and Leah have two young children and they receive constant threats from the fanatical radical Trump supporters who also threatened many elected Democrats, public officials, and judges. They handle this situation with grace and without fanfare; they consistently remind us of our commitment to nonviolence

Find a rally to attend, no matter where you are in the world on October 18th, and help your friends and family across the country find their nearest rally tool.  Go to the map: https://www.nokings.org/#map and type in a city or zip code or just zero in geographically.  On October 18th, people of varied backgrounds, ages, and political stances will be gathered together around one common commitment: We are a constitutional republic, a participatory democracy under the rule of law and no one is above it. No Kings in America.

Finally, please keep inviting friends and sharing our local No Kings events by email and on social media.  Registrations have been skyrocketing across the country. More than a week out, they have far surpassed total registrations for June 14th.  Register now:

IMV Meeting Oct. 23: All About Our Next Steps

Thank you to all the working groups that have been busy the past few weeks organizing around the groups that were self-organized at out September meeting.  We have people setting up voter registration tables in new locations and brainstorming a lot of new, cool ideas for IMV to organize, volunteer, build community, and spread our message.

After No Kings on Oct. 18th, we think we'll have a lot of new folks joining us and we'll want to welcome them. We'll also know more where we're headed post No Kings and we'll be talking about what that looks like nationally and locally. Do you think we can fill the room with 250-300 people?  Join us!

Sum Up and Inspiration

  • We've seen a few good Letters to the Editor in The Daily Sentinel recently, but the Trump supporters have been even more prolific. If you can write a letter, please do!  Write one today about why you'll be at a No Kings rally on Oct. 18th.  After the rally, write one telling about what a powerful experience it was and why the non-violent protest movement against fascist authoritarianism is continuing to grow.  Please also write a letter in support of a candidate on the ballot on Nov. 4th.  The deadline to submit an electoral letter to the Sentinel is October 22.

  • We can still use more Safety Marshals at our Utica, Rome, and Herkimer rallies.  We provide the training and the yellow/orange vests  You help people cross the street, keep them out of the street, help de-escalate any responses, and maintain a safe and comfortable environment for all attendees.  If you are able to volunteer, email IMV@IndivisibleMV.org

  • Stay strong. Do not give up.  Show up with other people in community.  Be in solidarity with our friends in LA, Chicago, DC, Portland, and across the country who are witnessing and standing vigil at ICE detention facilities and protesting courageously and peacefully in the streets while armed masked Trumpgoons menace them from all sides.  The more we show our righteous moral courage and unity across a broad social and political spectrum, the more we win the mind of the public.

"Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen” - Brene Brown

"Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the assessment that something else is more important than fear.” -Franklin D. Roosevelt

"We are not without fear. But we walk through it in courage. The kind of courage that topples kings." -Greisa Martinez Rosas, United We Dream Action

"We're the home of the brave and the land of the free. But if we want to be free, then we gotta be brave." - Mark Ruffalo
