Make Calls Today: Deadline on ICE Funding
Department of Homeland Security funding runs out on Friday, and we need to keep up the pressure on Congress to ensure that no funding bill passes without significant restrictions on ICE and Border Patrol.
We have real leverage in this fight: the funding bill can’t pass without Democratic votes. But we need to keep up the pressure on Congress. Republicans must agree to rein in ICE. Dems must reject any bill that falls short of that -- including another temporary funding bill that kicks the can down the road.
If the funding bill has not been negotiated by the time you read this, then it is critical that you CALL NOW.
Can’t call? Email your Members of Congress today.
Climate Crisis Working Group
Three Calls to Make Today to Preserve the CLCPA
Sign up for the Climate Families Call Relay or make the calls on your own at any time. Leaving a message after business hours is also effective. No time to call? Send an email message here.
Climate Families NYC organized the call relay as part of the efforts to protect the CLCPA from Gov. Hochul's plans to weaken it in the budget process. We at the Climate Crisis Working Group, as well as other climate activists, worked very hard to get a strong climate law passed in NY State…we need it implemented and funded, not dismembered!!
People Over Plastic!
Four members of the IMV Climate Crisis Working Group attended the rally in Albany this past Monday for the Packaging Reduction and Recycling Infrastructure Act (PRRIA). With over 300 attendees, the day included an orientation, a press conference, followed by meetings with individual legislators. The bill has passed in the Senate the past two years, and in the Assembly has already passed through all the necessary committees, so we are very optimistic that this is the year it finally succeeds. #PeopleOverPlastic
Mark Your Calendars for March 10th and March 25th for More Climate Rallies and Lobby Days!

Update on NY21 Candidate Forum
More than 700 NY21 Indivisibles registered for, and about 500 attended, the NY21 Democratic Candidate forum on Zoom on Tuesday. This was a great way for people to meet the three candidates and learn more about their priorities and values. Now folks should know who they want to petition for and who they will donate to and vote for in the primary. Let's flip the District!
Thank You to Oneka for Immigration Law Workshop
Thanks to everyone who turned out for our Immigration and Law workshop with Attorney Oneka Roach-Campbell on Wednesday. It was a deep dive into Constitutional rights and all the ways they are being threatened currently, especially for non-citizens in the US. Learning is a first step to preparing to support and protect neighbors, including as Constitutional observers. We need to continue to organize ourselves and connect with immigrant communities and support networks in our community. More to come.
Sum Up and Inspiration
1) Make Your Calls to Sen. Gillibrand and Sen. Schumer and to Rep. Mannion or Rep. Stefanik. Tell Them To Reign in ICE.
2) Sign up to attend our February IMV meeting on Sunday, 2/22.
3) Mark your calendar for No Kings 3 on March 28. We will have sign up links next week!
Do not give up hope. We have seen in Minnesota that people who act together with persistence and love can drive out Trump's ICE Gestapo, can force hatred, cruelty, and violence out through collective, peaceful action.
"The only recognizable feature of hope is action." — Grace Paley
"The one thing we need more than hope is action. Once we start to act, hope is everywhere." — Greta Thunberg
“Hope is not a lottery ticket you can sit on the sofa and clutch, feeling lucky. It is an axe you break down doors with in an emergency. Hope should shove you out the door." Rebecca Solnit
